Let’s face it – no one can honestly confirm the fate of TikTok as much as we wish we could. Recent headlines have us thinking, what app will become the next TikTok? Is that even possible?
With influencers like Charli D’Amelio, the dancing queen of TikTok, and Chase Hudson, the 18-year-old lip-syncing entertainer, many questions have been raised about what platform these next-gen influencers will flee to and if they’ll take their massive following with them. Many social media platforms are making adjustments and seizing the opportunity to be the next “TikTok-worthy” app.
The migration to other platforms has begun for a good amount of TikTokers. Youtube, Snapchat and Instagram are being flooded with the trendsetters. These platforms were the pioneers of social media and are now making adjustments to their platforms and utilizing TikTok’s signature features such as native editing tools.
In particular, Instagram has come a long way since the fall of 2010. The original purpose of Instagram was to highlight visual content and the platform has continued to adapt while keeping that focus. By integrating stories, a shopping feature and now Reels, Instagram isn’t hesitating to be the next super app. Adaptions play a vital role in the social media world. Instagram saw an opportunity and seized it to the best of their ability while maintaining a user-friendly app. Instagram describes Reels as a new way to create and discover short, entertaining videos on Instagram. The latest feature tested exceptionally well in other countries before its release in the U.S.
The question remains, “Is it time to invest creative efforts in Instagram Reels?” Even if TikTok remains a viable app, Instagram plans to reel in (pun intended) short-form video content creators. With the future of TikTok on shaky grounds, it is great to see how quickly other platforms adapt to keep creators creating!
TikTok has built its entire platform on niche creators and hyper-targeted content. Their algorithm remains undefeated with relevant content and that will be a key feature for other platforms to prove TikTok worthy. Instagram may be the next super app for all generations of users but it still has some kinks to work out.
From posting aesthetic photos, shopping on their market, sharing satisfying stories and adjusting to the new feature of “Reels,” everyone with an imaginative mind for visuals will always have a place to create on Instagram.
