I’ve always been labeled as an introvert growing up. I was the little girl who would play with
dolls by herself without saying a word. I was much too shy to walk up to someone and spark a
conversation on the fly. I was far too scared to join my friends on a mini-vacay for summer
camp in middle school. And I was always called the “quiet one” among family and friends. But
I can’t say I couldn’t agree.
Through high-school, and even college, I would find myself still struggling to break out of my
shell. The first days of class at my Alma Mater, Texas A&M University-San Antonio, were
always the hardest to get through. I knew I’d have to sit next to someone new and possibly
talk to them. “What on earth am I going to say?” “I’m not interesting at all!?” “Ugh, I should
have went to summer camp…” Talking to strangers was a cringe-worthy experience in my
book and sometimes it still can be.
So I know what you’re thinking. “What on earth are you doing in Public Relations then!?” “How
can you work in the field of Communications but be frightened to talk to someone?”
Truly, it’s the battle I fight everyday. A battle that I’ve learned to make my own and take
ownership of. A battle I made my own to finish college, become an assistant to the
Communications Program at TAMU-SA, and later land a job in broadcast news for Univision.
Through each of these battles, I’ve had faith that I can come out a victor. And I did.
One of the core values at Sammis & Ochoa is having faith, and never, EVER giving up. Since
I was a child, I’ve always been a very spiritual person so the idea of faith is not foreign to me.
To my understanding faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things
unseen. This meaning I’ve taken to heart throughout up’s and down’s in my life. It’s the anchor
that pulls me back where I need to be in difficult times.
And in my 16 days of working with the Sammis & Ochoa team, it’s a fundamental belief I’ve
seen in everything they do. This tribe of innovators sets goals and dreams with a backbone of
faith and the assurance of their investment. Their persistence to deliver happiness and
hard-work flourishes through team and client meetings.
Each team member may have a battle to face in the beginning of the week, but they own up
to fight and come forward with full faith to prevail. When this team get rolling, it’s hard to place
anything in their path to slow the pace. They’re a team of collaborators, dreamers, believers
and friends.
A team I can find faith in to push through for the win.
