I am currently in my senior year at University of the Incarnate Word. I am majoring in Communication Arts with a concentration in Production. Born in San Antonio, TX but raised in Atlanta, GA, I consider both places home. Since attending UIW, I’ve done media work for UIWTv as well as UIW’s Football Team. I first got started with the Public Relations field in spring 2016 working with Bremond “Bay Bay” McClinton, local personal trainer and owner of All Sports Strength & Conditioning. It was there that I served as his social media account manager as well as a member of his media production team. I’m also a big believer in volunteering and giving back. For over 5 years I have volunteered for the Immune Deficiency Foundation, serving on their Teen & Young Adult Council.
Experience has always been a big part in furthering my education and working towards a career in communications. Since communications is such a personal and fast paced career choice, I believe that gaining as much experience as possible is a must. Since I’ve been attending college I’ve been going back and forth with what communications field i want to truly concentrate in. So getting involved with All Sports and UIWTv has really helped further my knowledge of various aspects of communications and has also given me a broader sense of what I can do and want to do when I graduate. After I graduate from UIW, I plan on looking for a job in production, public relations, or advertising. While working I also plan on going back to school for my Masters in either Marketing or Advertising.
Three tips I’ve always lived by when it comes to experience and learning is that for one, whether you plan on doing that in the long run or not, no amount of experience is too little. You never know when what you’ve learned will come in handy. Secondly, I believe that whatever you’re learning, put your best into it. Even if it isn’t your forte, people will still notice your work ethic and that’s a driving force in how far you go in the work place. Last but not least, look for ways to better your learning experience. Don’t just wait for someone to teach you what to do, work on bettering your knowledge of something yourself. With those three tips, I believe anyone can go as far as they want in whatever they do.
