Note: This blog was written the weekend before the coronavirus restrictions began to come down hard. In light of the ongoing crisis, we elected to wait on focus on what’s most important: Helping others. We have had one hell of a decade. Thanks for being a part of our lives. And stay safe! – S|O

“View failure as a pathway to greatness.”
Those words rest quietly on the wall near the door to our office. It is one of our five core values.
On Mondays we gather as a staff to discuss them.
‘Failure’ rarely comes up, but when it does we feel complete. Coming up short can take many forms. For us it is usually an unbalanced budget. mismanaged client or staff expectations, and our favorite, a lack of communication.
It also finds its way into our personal lives. You cannot make it to 10-years-old without seeing a few things. Death, broken relationships, tragedy, and more dot our timeline.
And like the professional failures that came before and await us later, we stick together.
We do not think businesses exist. Only people. So love each other.
This weekend we will celebrate a decade of Sammis|Ochoa. The staff will be there, a few past and present clients, and some family and friends, too.
We hope failure can make it. It will not be a true celebration without it.*
Maybe the restaurant we booked will serve the wrong appetizers. Perhaps someone on our staff will forget to bring a copy of the guest list.
Either way, we’ll be just fine being slightly flawed.
To the many people who have made Sammis|Ochoa what it is today: Thank you for failing with us.
What a tremendous success it has been.
– Tanya and Mario
*Update: The restaurant lost track of our drink tickets. And Mario forgot the easel. So yeah. 🙂
