We don’t celebrate well at Sammis|Ochoa.
That’s not to say we don’t, but we are selective about when and how we recognize ourselves. Call it quasi-humility or a discipline born out of being in the business of acknowledging others before ourselves.
Regardless, today we celebrate nine years in business.
Being here this long is no small feat. Aside from the challenge of building a business, Tanya and I have dealt with personal obstacles that have confronted us in unexpected ways- end of relationships, deaths, insecurities, depressions, anxieties, and more. These are normal-issue for all of us, but navigating them is a struggle.
I’ve found myself battling a desire to move on from Sammis|Ochoa on enough occasions to count on one hand. A business is not unlike personal relationships in that way, even if it involves your soulmate.
But in a strange bit of irony, my fear of ‘what’s next?’ has always been answered by the presence of this company, err, family in my life.
For that I am grateful.
So today and this week, we’ll celebrate in our own way – small prayers of gratitude, beer toasts, and a staff outing, for certain.
And I’m positive a new challenge will make itself known. Then Tanya and I will talk and all will be right again.
We see things in the same way, her and I – ‘the same lens,’ we agreed. And even if the message is blurry, we can always make out the letters: T.H.A.N.K.Y.O.U.
Cheers.
